NRE has finalized a transaction to acquire the assets of HK Engine Components LLC, which manufactures and remanufactures EMD 567, 645 and 710 engine power assemblies used in the rail and marine industries.

The acquisition will enable the company to "significantly expand" engine solutions and options for the global market, NRE officials said in a press release. In addition, the transaction will help strengthen the firm's position in the world locomotive market, they said.

Manufacturing will continue at HK Engine's existing shops in Weston, W.Va., and Hagerstown, Md. The Weston plant produces castings and the Hagerstown facility produces diesel power assemblies used in locomotive engines.

NRE provides new and remanufactured locomotives for sale or lease, supplies locomotive parts and components, and offers third-party locomotive and marine engine overhaul and maintenance services.
