Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
Polish Railway Lines S.A. recently awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd. to conduct a feasibility study for a 217-mile E65 rail line upgrade between Warsaw and Gdynia.
Part of the Pan-European North-West TEN Corridor VI, E65 connects Warsaw and Gdansk, and provides connections to nearby East-West TEN Corridor II.
The study will consider three options: rehabilitating existing infrastructure to meet current and future traffic requirements; modernizing the infrastructure to accommodate speeds up to 100 mph using conventional rolling stock; and modernizing the infrastructure to handle speeds up to 100 mph and allowing for tilting stock.
Polish Railway and the European Union are financing the study through the Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-accession program and cohesion funds. Poland plans to join the union next spring, enabling E65 to be the first rail project in Poland to be completed using union funds.
