The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System awarded Advanced Rail Management Corp. a five-year contract to develop and operate a long-term rail maintenance program. The firm will review the existing wheel/rail profile compatibility, analyze rail profile and wear conditions, and design and execute a five-year rail grinding program to remove defects, enhance vehicle steering through curves and reduce noise on the system.
Alstom has completed trials of the energy storage system for SNCF’s first hybrid Transport express regional (TER) train at its facility in Tarbes, France. The train is scheduled to start production in September 2021. The hybrid TER represents France's first project to produce a hybrid Regiolis train, Alstom officials said in a press release. Alstom launched the project in 2018 in partnership with SNCF and the French regions of Centre-Val de Loire, Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie. The project involves replacing half of the thermal engines with storage systems made up of lithium-ion batteries. Meanwhile, Alstom in Italy entered into a $194 million contract with Ferrovie Nord Milano to supply six hydrogen fuel cell trains to the Lombardy region. The contract includes the option to order eight more.
Teleste entered into a contract with CAF to deliver on-board systems to Transport for London’s Dockland Light Railway (DRL). The deliveries will include passenger information, public address and closed-circuit television systems for 43 light-rail trains that CAF is designing, manufacturing and supplying to the DRL starting in 2023.
Dewberry hired Kelly Pollard as a senior project manager. Pollard has 30 years of management and design experience at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. For the past two years he served as manager of technical services for the Port Authority Trans Hudson railroad.
Urban Engineers hired Jeanne Cotter as a manager to maintain the firm’s quality management system, manage the quality audit program and lead periodic quality management reviews. Cotter has 30 years of experience in quality management development and implementation.
The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) elected Jim Hanlon to its board to represent suppliers. Hanlon is the president of Herzog Technologies. "I expect that Jim’s substantial background and experience with positive train control will provide important value to the association," ASLRRA President Chuck Baker said in a press release.
