Rail supplier news from Advanced Rail, Tideworks, Greenbrier, Jaxon, Thales and SKF (Oct. 22)

Advanced Rail Systems (ARS) on Oct. 15 held a building dedication for its new world headquarters in Texas. Guests attending the event included U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Texas Lions Camp President Stephen Mabry and Lions Club International Past President Joe Preston. The building was dedicated to the late Coy Beaman, the company’s CEO and president, who died of injuries sustained in a car accident in February. ARS provides and supports the automation of yards and railway operations to increase safety and improve efficiency.

Tideworks Technology Inc. announced that its Intermodal Pro^® and Traffic Control^™ solutions are now live at multiple of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.'s United Kingdom terminal operations. The latest deployments at G&W’s UK terminals, owned and operated by Freightliner in Cardiff and Birmingham, include integration with Advent eModal’s vehicle booking system and Camco Technologies’ gate management system to create the first automated gate solution designed specifically for UK rail and terminal operations. Tideworks Intermodal Pro and Traffic Control are in use at seven Freightliner terminals so far, and are on course to go live at the remaining G&W UK terminals by early 2022, according to a Tideworks press release.

Youngstown Steel Doors (YSD), part of Greenbrier Rail Services (GRS), has been sold to Jaxon, which provides parts and service to the railroad industry. Jaxon’s location is near the GRS location in Youngstown, Ohio. All skilled employees have been transferred. Greenbrier’s new boxcars will continue to be equipped with YSD-designed doors, according to a statement from GRS.

Societe de Transport de Montreal’s Green line stations Frontenac and Angrignon along with Orange line station Cote-Vertu entered revenue service with LockTrac^™, the interlocking technology from Thales. Garage Angrignon and Garage Cote-Vertu are currently undergoing the equipment replacement with scheduled completions in 2021. The final three stations will be completed in 2022.

SKF announced a commitment to have a supply chain with net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As milestones toward the new 2050 goal, SKF commits to reducing CO2 emissions in its supply chain by 45% by 2035 and 60% by 2040. In addition, SKF has pledged to source at least 40% of steel from carbon neutral steel plants by 2040 and reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2040.
