Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Alstom, Hatch, Mitsui Rail and Burns (Feb. 22)

Alstom’s Chinese joint venture Shentong Bombardier Rail Transit Vehicle Maintenance Co. has secured a contract with Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co. to provide whole lifecycle maintenance services to Shanghai’s 204 Movia metro cars, a total of 34 cars that are part of the Line 12 fleet. The contract is valued at over 43 million euros, Alstom officials said in a press release. Alstom will provide maintenance usingthe Orbita advanced train monitoring system, as well as its automatic vehicle inspection system. Shanghai’s transit authorities are conducting the Line 12 phase 2 and 3 projects, which are expected to finish by the end of 2027.

Hatch has appointed Winston Simmonds as regional director of infrastructure, USA, following predecessor Dominic DiBrito, who was recently named managing director of the firm’s transit business unit. Simmonds is expected to lead the group’s U.S.-focused infrastructure group, Hatch officials said in a press release. Previously,  vice president of the District Columbia area for Hatch, Simmonds has more than 30 years of experience in project management, engineering and construction management in transportation and public transit.

Mitsui Rail Capital (MRC) has named Bryan Vaughan as vice president of sales, marketing and business development. Vaughan has more than 30 years of experience in transportation and logistics, including 15 years working for multiple Class Is, and is well-versed in electronic data interchange implementation, rail cost analysis, product line management and sales for large bulk commodity accounts. He was previously commercial leader of sales and marketing for rail-car leasing at VTG Rail, MRC officials said in a press release. He also serves on the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers' board.

Burns has promoted Derek Brown to director of the company’s Washington, D.C., region. He is credited with overseeing the expansion of multidisciplinary engineering services for rail, transit, aviation and institutional clients throughout the region, Burns officials said in a press release. Brown has experience in rolling out large-scale technology upgrades for governments on multiple levels and has a background in capital planning.
