Alstom and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) have reached a tentative agreement affecting over 850 workers who operate Toronto's commuter trains. Union members will begin voting next week to ratify the agreement, TCRC officials said in a press release.

TiEnergy LLC, a family-owned rail tie recycling and repurposing company, recently marked 20 years in business. TiEnergy has developed solutions to remove and recycle out-of-service ties and also created new markets for old ties. The company works with Class Is, short lines, industrial and commercial companies and landfills to recycle railroad ties and wood waste to reduce their carbon footprints, company officials said in a press release.

NARSTCO LLC, a manufacturer of sustainable steel ties and turnouts, hosted over 65 members of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association Technical Committee 5 at the company’s manufacturing plants in Cedar Hill and Midlothian, Texas. Committee members got to see firsthand how NARSTCO uses recycled steel to produce sustainable steel ties and turnouts. The primary source of the steel comes from scrap automobiles, according to a NARSTCO press release.

Duos Technologies Inc. announced the release of its latest rail-car artificial intelligence detection model for use with the company’s rail-car inspection portal solution. The new algorithm covers end-of-car cushion inspection, a condition that can lead to derailments.

Smith, Gambrell & Russell LLP (SGR) served as legal counsel to TX Logistik AG in its acquisition of up to 65 locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The contract includes the purchase of 40 Vectron locomotives, along with 25 additional Vectron locomotives as an option. Siemens will perform locomotive maintenance. The locomotives are scheduled for delivery in September 2024 and December 2025.
