Rail supplier news from Alstom, Trinity and Voith (April 23)

Alstom has been awarded a contract valued at about $105 million by the Houston Airport System in Houston, Texas, to provide 10 years of operations and maintenance services for the Skyway automated people mover system at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Under the agreement, Alstom will be responsible for 24-hour train operations and dispatching as well as maintenance of the Innovia vehicle fleet, guideway, signaling system, and facilities including stations and the maintenance building, Alstom officials said in a press release. The contract follows a previous 10-year services contract with Bombardier Transportation, which is now part of Alstom. The Innovia automated people mover system has been operating at the airport since 1999.

Trinity Industries Inc. announced first-quarter 2021 results, including total revenue of $399 million; income from continuing operations per common diluted share (EPS) of 3 cents and quarterly adjusted EPS of 7 cents;  rail-car deliveries of 1,895 and new rail-car orders of 1,410; net additions of 4,155 rail cars to the wholly owned and partially owned lease fleet compared to the prior year period. “Trinity’s first quarter results reflect the dynamics of aggressive execution on our strategic initiatives in the midst of a challenging operating environment and a competitive market for railcar demand," said Jean Savage, Trinity's chief executive officer and president in a press release. "Operationally, our businesses performed well against our expectations, especially considering the winter storms that interrupted operations for nearly two weeks of the quarter."

Martin Wawra, currently managing director of Voith Turbo in China and the joint ventures with CRRC, will take over as head of the mobility division and become a member of Voith Turbo's management board as of June 1. He will succeed Cornelius Weitzmann, who will take over from Uwe Knotzer as chairman of the Voith Turbo's board.
