Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
Rail supplier news from Alstom, Wabtec and MRAIL Services (July 26)
French railway SNCF will exercise an option for 40 Alstom Euroduplex trains. In 2007, SNCF entered into an agreement with Alstom for 55 double-decker, very-high-speed trains, with an option for another 40. The option units are expected to be delivered between 2015 and 2019.
For the quarter ended June 30, Wabtec reported record sales of $638 million, a 5 percent increase compared with sales for the same 2012 period. "Strong growth" in the company's transit group drove the increase, the company said in a prepared statement. Wabtec also reported income from operations was a record $113 million, or 17.6 percent of sales, compared with 16.5 percent in the year-ago quarter. Based on the results and outlook for the rest of 2013, company officials expect revenues to be up about 8 percent for the year.
