BSM Technologies U.S. Holdings Inc. has closed its previously announced acquisition of 100 percent of the membership interests of Lat-Lon L.L.C. "By adding Lat-Lon's impressive customer base, rail car and locomotive product portfolio, and team, we have quickly expanded beyond our existing high-rail solution and positioned BSM as a leader in the important rail vertical," said Aly Rahemtulla, BSM's president and chief executive officer, in a press release.Network Rail has selected Thales to provide its ARAMIS Traffic Management System (TMS) at two new regional operating centers in Romford and Cardiff in the United Kingdom for $47.6 million, according to a Thames press release. This will be the first time that the TMS technology has been deployed in the U.K., according to Thales.
Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo last week visited Siemens' rail automation plant in Louisville, Ky., which is helping engineer the next generation of rail safety and hiring new employees to keep up with that demand, he said in a press release. The Louisville plant engineers and produces signaling and train control systems. Currently, it produces positive train control signaling, wayside signaling systems and crossing control bungalows for a variety of railroads, including PATH, MTA Long Island Rail Road, Canadian Pacific, Kansas City Southern, CN and Norfolk Southern Railway.
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) last week joined representatives from Harsco Rail and the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) for a tour of Harsco Rail’s manufacturing facility and headquarters in Columbia, S.C. After a safety briefing, Harsco Rail’s Columbia Plant Manager Craig Fairley led the senator on a tour of the facility, which manufactures maintenance-of-way equipment such as tampers, tie inserters, grinders and track renewal equipment. During the tour, the senator saw first-hand a Harsco Rail Mark IV production/switch tamper in action, and learned how track maintenance is essential to rail safety and the longevity of rail infrastructure.
