Carboline has named Juanjo Ardid as the company’s eighth president. Ardid succeeds Chris Tiernay, who led the company since late 2016. Ardid had been employed by PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) since 1993 before joining Carboline. Most recently, he served in the company in Pittsburgh as vice president of protective and marine coatings for the United States and Canada. Other prior roles include general manager for global automotive adhesives and sealants, as well as market director roles for Europe, Middle East and Africa automotive markets.

A Transdev and John Holland joint venture has been awarded a nine-year contract for the initial operation and maintenance of Yarra Trams, the light-rail network in Melbourne, Australia. The contract, which the joint venture will take over in December, is valued at 4.2 billion euros. The Yarra Trams system consists of 24 rail lines over 155 miles of double track, 500 trams and 1,600 stops.

The Global Ukraine Rail Task Force recently highlighted the humanitarian efforts of rail-sector colleague Simon Cassidy, who works for transit operator FirstGroup in the United Kingdom. Every month, Cassidy takes time off work to transport essential humanitarian aid from the United Kingdom to a hub in Poland, where it is then transported to war-torn Ukraine. Cassidy is a member of the task force, which regularly provides charitable donations to Ukraine’s railroad workers.
