Deutsche Bahn and Bombardier Transportation have reached an out-of-court settlement for disputes on several vehicle projects, including the Berlin S-Bahn vehicles, the Talent 2, and regional and commuter trains in the German states of Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Wurttemberg. In March 2013, Deutsche Bahn sued Bombardier due to various defects in those trains, including braking and engine problems.

TranSystems has launched the second year of its Railway Engineering Education Seminars (TREES) program in Kansas City, Mo. The program includes two days of face-to-face curriculum, site visits and 16 technically focused webinars. It is aimed at teaching civil engineers and technical staff the ins and outs of railway engineering.

RailPros Inc. has named Bob Matthews vice president. Prior to his appointment, Matthews worked as an engineering director for an international engineering firm, where he coordinated production activities for various segments throughout four Southern California offices. He's also worked on rail projects with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Sound Transit.

Atkins has appointed David Thurston as senior technical director and Sergio Callen as regional business development manager in New York City. The firm also hired Jonas Radstrom as national rail systems director in San Francisco, and Dan Mesnick as program director for asset management in Edison, N.J.

The Burns Group named David Kipp vice president of technology services. Kipp, who has 30 years of experience in the development of technology systems for various industries, will work to help the company provide integrated and customized designs for its clients.
