Rail supplier news from EnviroRail, Clever Devices, Luminator, Bombardier, Alstom and Rajant (Jan. 21)

EnviroRail has licensed Mechanical Concrete^®, a process that takes a cylinder made from the tread portion of used, waste truck tires and fills the cylinder with same-size gravel. This reuse of the tires creates a solid, sustainable and greener way to make foundations, road bases and repairs, Mechanical Concrete officials said in a press release. EnviroRail will use the patented technology for track maintenance to support its major U.S. railroad customers. “Our goal is to have a railroad test the product during the first couple of months this year, and as soon as the weather turns for the better, we will be at a launch point with Mechanical Concrete,” EnviroRail officials said in a press release. 

Clever Devices hired John Santamaria as senior vice president of rail. He will concentrate on rail customer acquisition and project deployment, and work with product management and development teams to help define Clever Devices' next-generation rail solution portfolio. Previously, Santamaria served as the VP and chief mechanical officer of car equipment at MTA New York City Transit, where he was responsible for rail-car maintenance and acquisition. 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved a Section 18 Public Health Emergency Exemption for the use of Grignard Pure^™, an antimicrobial air treatment solution, for intrastate transit and transportation applications in Georgia and Tennessee. Administered through Luminator Technology Group’s Renew^™ Air Treatment System, the solution kills 98% of the SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in the air, Luminator officials said in a press release. When deployed onboard rail vehicles, the system will help protect passengers, operators and other transit employees from the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, company officials said.

Italian intermodal freight operator GTS Rail has ordered three more Traxx DC3 E.494 locomotives from Bombardier Transportation. This order will increase GTS Rail’s Traxx locomotive fleet to 20 units. The new locomotives will be built at Bombardier’s Vado Ligure site in Italy and deliveries will start in September, Bombardier officials said in a press release.

Alstom has been awarded a $128.8 million contract from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd. (NCRTC) to design, supply and install the signaling, train control and telecommunication system for a semi-high-speed rail line between Delhi and Meerut, India. The systems will be installed on the 51-mile Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System Corridor, Alstom officials said in a press release. NCRTC is a joint venture between the Indian government and states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Rajant Corp. has entered into a strategic distribution agreement with Mission Critical by Astor, a distributor within industrial internet of things data exchange platforms and machine to machine. Mission Critical by Astor will now be a provider of Rajant’s Kinetic Mesh wireless network technology. The partnership represents Rajant’s investment in Europe to increase support of autonomous platform connectivity and coverage in the rail market, Rajant officials said in a press release.
