The Greenbrier Cos. has sold its vessel fabrication business, Gunderson Marine, to Oregon Green Manufacturing LLC (OGM). Gunderson Marine operates at a 58-acre industrial waterfront site in Portland, Oregon, which OGM also acquired. OGM plans to continue operations at the site, where Gunderson Marine was active between 1947 and 1985 and again beginning in 1995. The parties entered into a noncompetition agreement for Greenbrier's core business of freight rail-car-related products and services. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Cargo-Partner has been sold to Nippon Express Holdings under a deal signed late last week. Founded in 1983, Cargo-Partner employs 4,000 people in 40 countries. The company exceeded the billion-euro mark in global turnover for the first time in 2020 and achieved 2.06 billion euros in turnover in 2022. Cargo-Partner will remain the same in organization and branding, said owner and founder Stefan Krauter in a press release. Krauter will support the transition in his new role on the corporate supervisory board and serve as an adviser to the corporate executive board.
Duos Technologies Inc. reported first-quarter 2023 revenue of $2.64 million, an 84% increase compared with the same period a year ago. The increase was attributed to the manufacturing of two high-speed, bespoke rail-car inspection portals for a transit customer and the delivery of artificial intelligence-powered detection models for multiple freight-rail customers, according to a Duos press release. Q1 2023 operating expenses fell 6% to $2.68 million. Also in the quarter, Duos performed more than 1.7 million comprehensive rail-car scans across 11 inspection portals.
Starlink high-speed broadband will make its debut on Brightline trains traveling between Miami and West Palm Beach, Florida, the first passenger-rail service in the world to offer Starlink, Brightline officials said in a press release. The service will be available to Orlando trains this summer. Starlink's low-latency internet service is made possible through a constellation of satellites. The service is complimentary for Brightline riders.
Doran Manufacturing, a tire pressure monitoring systems manufacturer, recently marked 70 years in business by unveiling a 10,000-square-foot facility in Blue Ash, Ohio. The facility was designed to improve efficiency of manufacturing, shipping and service with enough space for additional employees. Also, Doran has been purchased by a group of current Doran executive leaders, including President Jim Samocki, Vice President of Business Development Lee Demis and Controller Dave Robinson.
The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association is seeking applications for the 2023 REMSA Undergraduate Scholarship, which will provide one $6,000 chairman's scholarship and one $4,000 individual scholarship. Applications are due July 21, 2023. Eligible applicants must be a full- or part-time employee of a REMSA member company, or the spouse, child or grandchild of an employee; enrolled as a full-time college student at an accredited school at the time of application or in the upcoming semester; and demonstrate successful completion of the previous school year.
