The Greenbrier Cos. yesterday announced it had received orders for 4,500 new rail cars with an aggregate value of $580 million during its second quarter that ended Feb. 28. Orders during the quarter included tank cars, auto-carrying rail cars, box cars and covered hoppers. The company also announced preliminary Q2 financial results of $1.1 billion in revenue and deliveries of 7,200 units. Greenbrier expects to announce the quarter’s official financial results on April 10.
Wabtec Corp. has received an order from Alstom Transport India Ltd. for a brake system to support the Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited and Pune Metro Rail Development Authority for the Metro Line 3 project in Maharashtra, India. The order calls for brake systems for 22 trains consisting of 66 cars in a three-car configuration, as well as safety equipment. Alstom is building the trains for the 14-mile Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar elevated line at its plant in Sricity, India. The Metro Line 3 project is expected to be completed by April 2025.
Duos Technologies Inc. announced the release of two new passenger rail-car artificial intelligence detection models for use with the company’s Rail-car Inspection Portal, which allows passenger-rail operators to inspect trains traveling at speeds up to 125 mph. The new models focus on the carrier plate and F-Pin securement, both of which are difficult to observe but critical for passenger safety and derailment avoidance, Duos officials said in a press release. The models are the first release of passenger rail-car AI detections and are adaptable to other transit car types.
The MCS consortium — made up of Mace Group Ltd., Comtech Group Inc. and SYSTRA Canada Inc. — has been awarded the contract for delivery partner services to support Metrolinx’s Scarborough Subway Extension and Yonge North Subway Extension projects in Toronto. The multibillion-dollar projects will extend the Toronto Transit Commission’s existing subway by nearly 10 miles and accommodate nearly 200,000 trips daily.
