BZI and affiliate companies on Aug. 22 hosted a groundbreaking of the 820-acre sustainable industrial park Commerce Crossroads™ and the opening of the park’s first tenant, RailSync™ in Cedar City, Utah.

HNTB announced that former Conrail President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Tierney has joined the firm as a senior project director and rail industry technical adviser. He will advise clients on various large scale railroad operations, design and construction projects. Tierney worked for more than 40 years at Conrail. In 2017, he was named president and COO. Tierney is a licensed professional engineer in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan, according to an HNTB press release.

BZI® and affiliate companies on Aug. 22 hosted a groundbreaking of the 820-acre sustainable industrial park Commerce Crossroads and the opening of the park’s first tenant, RailSync in Cedar City, Utah. RailSync will provide integrated short-line rail service to individual businesses and eventually to future Commerce Crossroads tenant facilities, according to a BZI press release. 

Hitachi Group announced it donated $100,000 to support the people and rebuilding of Maui, Hawaii, following the deadly wildfires there. A donation of $80,000 has been designated to the Japanese Red Cross Society, and an additional donation of $20,000 has been made to the Aloha United Way to its Maui Fire Relief Fund.

The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society (R&LHS) has awarded five scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students for 2023. Each award is worth $3,000. The recipients are: Harun Celik of Ames, Iowa; Carter Heimer of River Falls, Wisconsin; William Hoffman of Appleton, Wisconsin; Paige Malott of Seattle; and Rydell Walthall of Austin, Texas. The deadline to apply for 2024 scholarships is March 31, 2024.
