Hitachi Rail received the IJ Global 2022 Transport Deal of the Year Award for the North America division in the light-rail category. The award recognizes the company and its consortium members for their roles in winning the CA$9 billion contract to deliver the Ontario Line rolling stock, systems, operations and maintenance (RSSOM) project. When completed, the Ontario Line will be a 10-mile, high-frequency rapid light-rail service in Toronto. The service is expected to accommodate 400,000 daily boardings using a fully driverless system with GoA4 grade automation.

Alstom has delivered 300 electric locomotives to Indian Railways, marking a milestone in increasing the railroad’s capabilities to haul heavy freight trains at high speeds. Under a contract worth 3.5 billion euros, Alstom will deliver 800 high-powered, double-section, 12,000-horsepower locomotives designated by Indian Railways as WAG-12B. Alstom is building the units in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.

Cummins Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Leclanche S.A. to offer  hybrid, battery-only and fuel cell package solutions in marine and rail applications using a variety of power sources. The MOU establishes a key business relationship as Cummins aims for reaching net zero emissions goals across all products by 2050, Cummins officials said in a press release. The companies will work together to optimize the installation, training, commissioning, warranty and aftersales support of the power source packages.

TransmetriQ added advanced fleet insight capabilities to its asset manager software. The new lease management module expands visibility from asset location, health and status into lease-related analysis and reporting, providing rail-car owners and lessees with a central location for storing detailed lease information. Key features include tracking lease renewal dates and terms; reconciling billing to lease terms; managing asset deployment; identifying repair cost responsibility; and analyzing lease term compliance.
