Hitachi Rail launched new innovations this week at the Railway Systems Supplies Inc.'s C&S Exhibition in Kansas City, Missouri.

At the 2022 Railway Systems Supplies Inc. Communication & Signaling Exhibition May 16-18, Hitachi Rail launched several innovations in automation and digitalization. Among them is the PTC Onboard System, an interoperable train control solution for freight and commuter railroads. The technology platform utilizes a modern, multiprocessor architecture to run both vital and nonvital applications. Hitachi Rail will also launch its digital Railcar Telematics product suite to provide GPS tracking and operational status of rail cars.

Steptoe & Johnson LLP announced Timothy Strafford has joined the firm’s transportation practice group as a partner in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Strafford was associate general counsel and corporate secretary at the Association of American Railroads. Prior to joining the AAR, he served as chief of staff at the Surface Transportation Board. At Steptoe, he will advise clients on legislative issues, economic and safety regulatory matters, rulemaking and individual disputes before the STB, appeals in federal court, court actions and arbitrations.

GenCell Energy and RedHawk Energy Systems LLC announced a strategic partnership to deliver GenCell’s long-duration and zero-emission fuel cell backup power systems to support critical infrastructure requirements in the U.S. rail and other key industry sectors. RedHawk will feature GenCell's backup power solutions at the 2022 RSSI C&S Exhibition in Kansas City, Missouri, this week.

Transdev and Xavier University of Louisiana have formed a partnership in which Xavier students now will have access to the worldwide mobility company as a preferred employer of choice. The partnership will include a summer internship program, a speaker series and career counseling for Xavier students.
