Hitachi Rail has obtained a contract with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) to install the company's SelTrac communications-based train control technology across the agency's 71-mile and 33-station network. Hitachi Rail will provide a single CBTC system for surface and subway areas to regulate flow of vehicles throughout the network. The contract also calls for a 10-year agreement for ongoing support and maintenance with an option for another 10 years, according to a Hitachi Rail press release. The contract's financial details were not disclosed in the release.

Cando Rail & Terminals announced the opening of the Cando Southlands Rail Yard in Strathcona County, Alberta. The terminal will provide rail capacity to serve Imperial’s Strathcona refinery, which is adjacent to the new terminal, as well as other area customers. Cando will provide rail operations at he Cando Southlands Rail Yard and the refinery. Imperial is now constructing Canada’s largest renewable diesel facility at its Strathcona refinery.
