Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. has launched remote track monitoring services with information and communication technology (ICT) in North America for the first time. Kawasaki has received an order for the services from an undisclosed North American Class I. Under the contract, locomotives will be equipped with monitoring devices and Kawasaki will provide remote track monitoring service to support track maintenance.

Transportation Products Sales Co. (TPSC) has entered into an agreement to represent Global Power Supply, a full service critical prime and backup power solutions provider. In addition to offering sales and rental of generators, Global Power Supply provides complete turnkey services from inspections to engineering, permitting installation and maintenance. “We are excited to add Global Power Supply’s products and services to our portfolio allowing us to serve critical power applications in the rail industry,” said TPSC President Sid Bakker in a press release.

Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) has promoted Timothy Schmidt to vice president. Schmidt, who joined LAN in 1989, has 37 years of experience in the rail and transit industries. During his career, he has managed numerous light-rail, commuter-rail and bus rapid transit projects. Currently, he leads the firm’s transit sector in California. He has expertise in the construction management/general contractor (CM/GC) delivery method and has served as a project manager or construction manager for a variety of CM/GC transit projects.
