CSX selected Michael Baker International to lead program and construction management for rail enhancement projects as part of the Transforming Rail in Virginia (TRV) initiative. The initiative, to be completed in collaboration with the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, encompasses multiple projects between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Virginia, totaling $3.7 billion. Michael Baker will provide management over the next decade and serve as owner-representative in collaboration with design consultants to provide pre-construction and construction phase services. TRV is a public-private partnership involving the Federal Railroad Administration, Virginia Department of Transportation, Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has extended by five years through June 2029 its contract with Intersection. Intersection will deploy the agency's first-ever digital advertising network that will bring online 17 digital displays and large-scale video walls. The partnership will generate more revenue for SFMTA. A soft launch of the digital displays will occur Nov. 19 on the Central Subway Line.
VIA Rail Canada Inc. recently awarded contracts to Buttcon Ltd. and Pomerleau Inc. to modernize VIA Rail's maintenance centers in Toronto and Montreal. Upon completion, the centers will become the maintenance base for 32 new VIA Rail trains and service location for the existing fleet. Work is slated to start in early 2023.
IntelliTrans has introduced a kiosk feature to its transportation management system mobile app, which enables truck drivers entering a facility to stay in the cab and avoid waiting in line for loading instructions. The new addition is designed to speed up the check-in process and reduce on-site time by about 30 minutes, company officials said in a press release.
