Motive Power & Equipment Solutions Inc. has introduced the Greenville™ locomotive, an ultra-low emissions Gen-set locomotive powered by a combination of natural gas and diesel fuels, according to a company press release. The company expects to begin taking orders on its Greenville MP1500 (1500-horsepower) dual-fuel locomotive later in 2014.

Lilee Systems announced that its new 802.15.4p Rail Communications and Control (RRC) standard was approved by the IEEE-SA Standards Board on March 27. The IEEE 802.15.4p RRC Task Group, founded and chaired by Lilee Systems' Vice President of Strategic Development Jon Adams, developed the baseline for wireless links between trains or locomotives and track infrastructure, creating the framework for locomotive and transit communication standards, according to a company press release.

Ioxus announced its ultracapacitors are being fitted to wayside traction power on MTA Long Island Rail Road. The ultracapacitors will provide voltage support to assist the traction power system, capturing and storing the energy produced by the train. The energy will be used it to facilitate better acceleration, and allow for greater energy efficiency and reduced energy consumption, according to an Ioxus press release.

Kevin Goins and Don Walsh have formed Freedom Railcar Solutions L.L.C. to provide mobile rail-car repair and maintenance services for crude-by-rail shippers, operators and other freight-car lessors in the Bakken Shale and Powder River Basin. Freedom Railcar will enter the market by providing on-site and mobile repair and maintenance services in North Dakota and Wyoming that are designed to minimize rail-car downtime, according to a company press release.

Vossloh Fastening Systems America has named Gary Hines director of sales for heavy haul systems. Hines has more than 30 years of experience dealing with track fastening systems and rail in heavy haul applications in the rail industry.

How2Media, the producers of the television show "World’s Greatest! …", announced that they have recently selected S&C Distribution Co. to be a part of the television series. The S&C segment will be aired today and May 5.
