NRE is moving ahead with a plan to consolidate several production lines. Over the next several months, the company will consolidate rail operations from plants in Dixmoor and Silvis, Illinois, and Milwaukee at production facilities in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Paducah, Kentucky. In addition, operations now performed at a Hagerstown, Maryland, plant will be moved to a new facility adjacent to the Paducah shops. Featuring new and updated CNC machines, the new plant primarily will build and remanufacture diesel power assemblies. NRC provides new and remanufactured locomotives, maintenance services, and locomotive parts and components.

Koppers Inc. plans to spend $23 million on improvements to its North Little Rock, Arkansas, facility over the next two years. The wood-tie supplier plans to complete some construction work and purchase equipment to upgrade and modernize processes at the plant, which treats more than 1.5 million wood ties annually. Koppers also plans to hire more workers at the facility. The company produces various treated wood products, wood treatment chemicals and carbon compounds.

Harsco Corp. has appointed Wendy Livingston senior vice president of human resources and chief human resources officer. She will be responsible for developing a human resources global strategy for the company and its 13,000 employees, who are located in more than 30 countries. Livingston most recently was VP of corporate human resources for The Boeing Co., which she served for the past 24 years. Livingston will report to Harsco Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Nick Grasberger.

On Sept. 1, the Harting Technology Group will mark its 75th anniversary. The company was formed on Sept. 1, 1945, when Wilhelm and Marie Harting opened the Wilhelm Harting Mechanical Workshops in Minden, Westphalia. Harting now is a global supplier of industrial connection technology for data, signal and power applications. The company operates 14 production plants and manages 44 sales companies.

High-speed rail operator Thalys renewed a contract with Icomera for the continuation of Wi-Fi service on lines serving four European countries. In 2014, Thalys contracted Icomera to operate Wi-Fi service on 26 eight-car trainsets. Using its SureWAN technology — which is designed to intelligently aggregate multiple cellular networks along a train’s route — Icomera has provided Thalys onboard passenger Wi-Fi service, including trips that exceed 200 miles.
