National Railway Equipment Co. has appointed Merritt Becker CEO, effective June 1. He will succeed Steven Beal, who died in 2020. Becker joins NRE from Cummins Inc., where for the past 12 years he served in a variety of executive roles in the United States and abroad. Most recently, Becker was president and managing director of Cummins DKSH in Thailand. Prior to that, he spent more than a dozen years at Navistar Inc.
SEL Supply-Chain Solutions (SELSCS) of Fort Worth, Texas, has opened its first office in Canada. Located in the Scotia Place Tower in Edmonton, Alberta, the new office will serve entrepreneurial freight agents and their customers.
Ricardo Certification has been appointed as the independent safety assessor (ISA) for the forthcoming transformation of transit rail across the greater Toronto and Hamilton area in Ontario, Canada. As the ISA, Ricardo will provide independent scrutiny of the program’s safety documentation during its design phase, ensuring it is in full compliance with relevant standards. The role was awarded by Metrolinx.
Trainyard Tech LLC is the winning bidder for the upgrade of the U.S. Sugar Corp.'s rail facility in Clewiston, Florida. The plant consists of two leads with 34 switches feeding to a dumping facility to process raw sugar cane. The Trainyard Tech Routemaster™ control system will provide increased efficiency, more analytics and easier maintenance to allow for increased throughput and greater success in this processing. Rail cars will be able to keep rolling while maintenance is performed due to the designed separation of the control equipment from switch machines, Trainyard Tech officials said in a press release.
