PowerRail Inc. recently announced the formation of PowerRail Engine Systems, a full-service engine company. PowerRail Engine offers rebuilt engines, as well as new and remanufactured power assemblies, governors, turbochargers, water, fuel, and oil pumps, and other engine related components. Parts and components support both EMD and GE engines, including Tier 0+ emission kits. In addition, Environmental Protection Agency emission-compliant equivalents are available on most major components, according to a company press release.

Cattron and JMA Railroad Supply Co. have partnered for JMA to represent Cattron’s wireless remote-control products to Class II and III railroads. Cattron has provided solutions for rail yards since 1977, including a computer-based system that enables rail yard operators to control driverless, switching locomotives using wireless operator-control units.

WSP USA, as part of the North Link Partners team, provided final design for Sound Transit’s new $1.9 billion double-track light-rail line that recently opened for service in Seattle. WSP participated in extensive coordination with King County Metro and the Seattle Department of Transportation on transit, pedestrian and traffic operations, and was responsible for the aerial guideway and Northgate Station design, project integration, track design, mechanical engineering, station and tunnel ventilation, traffic and civil design for Northgate Station, and quality assurance/quality control.

Alstom has appointed Kanat Alpysbayev managing director of its Western and Central Asia cluster to support the region’s ambitious goals related to the modernization and industrialization of the transportation industry. He joins Alstom from KazPost, the national postal service of Kazakhstan where he served as board chairman. Alpysbayev brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the transportation industry, Alstom officials said in a press release.
