Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight

Rail supplier news from Progress Rail, Alstom, Stahl, Jacobs and InnoTrans (Sept. 25)

Progress Rail has signed a five-year contract with Network Rail to supply switches and crossings in the United Kingdom. Network Rail will gain access to Progress Rail’s manufacturing capabilities and long-term supply chain resilience in the U.K. rail market. Progress Rail also announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to work on several railway projects in Turkey and nearby regions. The projects include in-country locomotive services and over-haul, engine and control system upgrades, modernizations, and sales and delivery of locomotives.

Alstom presented its Autonomous Regional Train Evolution (ARTE) project in Germany this week. Alstom is receiving federal funding for the project, in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center and the Rail Operations and Infrastructure Department and TU Berlin. ARTE aims to support the digitalization of the German rail network through implementing automated train operations via the European Train Control System.

Stahl Recruiting on Oct. 7 will mark its 10th year of connecting leaders to careers in the railroad industry. The company will recognize its history of placing candidates in all facets of the rail industry; its relationships with leading suppliers in the industry; the recruitment strategies it has developed for rail; and its dedication to diversity and inclusion, according to a Stahl Recruiting press release.

Jacobs was selected by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as the program management consultant for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station improvements project. The project includes updating LIRR’s Babylon, Forest Hills and Hollis stations to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

InnoTrans has broken several attendance and exhibit records at this year’s conference being held Sept. 24-27 in Berlin, according to an InnoTrans press release. There are 2,940 exhibitors in attendance from 59 countries, 226 world innovations from international exhibitors, and 113 vehicles on 3,500 meters of rail track. The exhibition includes displays that focus on topics such as electrification, digitalization, artificial intelligence and sustainability.
