RailWorks Corp. has acquired H&H Engineering Construction Inc., a California-based rail maintenance and construction contractor that provides services to transit, ports, freight railroads and rail-served industrial companies. The purchase will help expand the company’s presence on the West Coast to serve a diverse group of clients, RailWorks officials said in a press release. Financial terms were not disclosed. The H&H acquisition follows RailWorks' recent purchase of Progress Rail Services Corp.’s rail welding services division.
Hub Group Inc. has acquired TAGG Logistics, which specializes in e-commerce and business-to-business fulfillment services, including warehousing and transportation. TAGG was founded in 2006 and has since grown into a 4 million-square-foot warehousing space. The acquisition will bolster Hub Group’s presence in the consolidation and fulfillment space and add e-commerce options for clients’ multimodal and logistics needs, Hub Group officials said in a press release. The acquisition was valued at $103 million and funded with cash on hand.
PS Logistics subsidiary Purdy Brothers Trucking has acquired certain transportation assets of Phoenix Leasing of Tennessee Inc., and has entered into an agreement with Phoenix Leasing sister company Colonial Freight Systems Inc. to contract with drivers to continue serving Colonial's customers. The purchase will further strengthen PS Logistics’ refrigerated operations in the southeastern United States by adding more than 55 lease purchase drivers to the Purdy Brothers fleet, including more than 50 new model tractors. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Stadler Rail will supply 56 TINA trams to Hallesche Verkehrs-AG (HAVAG). This is the fourth order Stadler will fill for HAVAG. The first trams are scheduled to begin service in Halle, Germany, in 2025. The order calls for two bidirectional vehicles in two different lengths — 39 vehicles of the future model MGT-M will be about 98 feet long and accommodate 166 passengers each, 64 seated. The other 17 vehicles will be the 147-foot-long MGT-XL model, which fits 267 passengers each, 96 seated.
Taiwan Railways Administration selected Lilee Systems to provide rail safety technology for the Liujia Line in northern Taiwan. The company has already completed proof of concept for the train control 4.0 system to be deployed on EMU800 trains. TC 4.0 is an end-to-end train safety and control solution designed to provide overspeed protection, work-zone protection and temporary speed restriction.
Aurora Capital Partners has closed the sale of VLS Environmental Solutions LLC to I Squared Capital. VLS provides customized waste and specialty cleaning and repair services to rail, marine and other industries in North America. The acquisition will help VLS continue to expand its environmental services platform, said company president and CEO John Magee in a press release. Financial terms were not disclosed.
