STV and Naik Consulting Group joint venture has received a notice to proceed to provide construction management services for Amtrak’s East River Tunnel rehabilitation project on the Northeast Corridor. The joint venture's work will include demolishing all existing tunnel systems down to the liner; rehabilitating the tunnel structure; replacing cable benches; installing new fire life safety systems; replacing signals and traction power; and converting the tracks to a modern, direct fixation track system.

Industrial Networks LLC (INet) has unveiled Smart AEI Tag, which is engineered to provide real-time tracking, connectivity and durability for rail-car monitoring and management. Along with retaining industry standards, the new Smart AEI Tag will integrate applications that transform the older AEI technology from simple segmented point-in-time data into a real-time integrated IoT data ecosystem, connecting every part of the freight rail supply chain and providing an enhanced customer experience. Smart AEI Tags contain a continually expanding list of integrations with a wide variety of sensors, according to an INet press release.

Rail Vision Ltd. announced an advancement in railway safety and control, developed in collaboration with a major U.S.-based rail company. Rail Vision’s new system transitions from passive warning systems to active safety systems that directly control locomotive throttle and brakes. The advancement takes a step toward autonomous rail operations, according to a Rail Vision press release. Tailored for shunting yard locomotives, the advancement leverages Rail Vision’s proprietary AI technology to provide real-time insights integrated into the customer’s locomotive control systems. The system will be deployed as part of the initial rollout on the customer’s U.S. fleet, with implementation starting by the end of 2024.
