Savage Co. has hired NJ Pesci as executive vice president and chief people and strategy officer. Prior to joining Savage, Pesci was president and founder of the Ovid Groupe, where he provided strategic guidance to organizations and executives. He’s also served in leadership roles with KLAS Research, Scripps Networks Interactive and The Procter & Gamble Co.

Intramotev, a technology company building autonomous zero-emissions rail solutions, has deployed a self-propelled battery-electric rail car in a traditional freight train. Known as the ReVolt, the rail-car retrofit was launched at Iron Senergy’s Cumberland Mine in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The car has operated along more than 1,000 miles between the Cumberland Mine and its Alicia Harbor facility, according to an Intramotev press release. Later this year, Intramotev will deploy its locomotive replacement, known as the TugVolt, at a calcium mine in northern Michigan, company officials said.

MHX LLC on April 1 began transload operations in Phoenix. The expansion marks a milestone for the company, expanding to Arizona its existing facility portfolio in California, Oregon and Washington. The Phoenix site spans 108 acres and features outdoor and covered storage facilities. Currently equipped for multicommodity rail transload and last-mile transportation, the new facility is directly served by Union Pacific Railroad, according to an MHX press release.

HIMA technology is being used in the Italian high-speed Galleria Ceraino train tunnel near Lake Garda, Italy, the company announced this week. The newly implemented system is designed for the safe isolation of overhead lines and their grounding to ensure greater safety in rail traffic throughout the country, according to a HIMA press release. The tunnel on the Verona to Brennero line is more than 2.5 miles long and serves as a pilot project for the nationwide introduction of the new safety technology, the release said.
