Siemens AG and the Swiss Federal Railways have established a cooperation agreement under which Siemens will continue development of the Iltis control and information system for automation and centralization of rail traffic control in Switzerland. The contract, valued at $344.4 million, will run through 2025.Bombardier Transportation has obtained a $289 million order for 18 electric double-deck multiple units from Deutsche Bahn AG in Germany. Starting in December 2016, the new trains will operate on the Augsburg-Treuchtlingen-Nuremberg and Treuchtlingen-Ingolstadt-Munich lines.Deutsche Bahn AG subsidiary DB Netz AG has been selected by Intergraph®'s GeoMedia® Desktop Suite as part of its AGON GIS project initiative. Intergraph's geospatial solutions will be used to manage the geospatial documentation of rail infrastructure, the transportation network and rail corridor data, as well as to create cartographic products, according to a company press release.SYSTRA has named Patrick Harrison vice president and sector manager, systems. Based in New York City, he will lead SYSTRA's signal, communications and systems integration engineering practice. Harrison's expertise is in the startup and commissioning of major facilities for transit, government and utility clients.The Land Public Transport Commission of Malaysia has established the first Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) chapter in that country. IRSE aims to help improve train operations and maintenance safety standards and share industry knowledge with professionals in the signaling and telecommunications sector.
