Thales will soon install its robust train positioning system (RTPS) on a “rolling lab” that will provide data on the safety and efficiency of the United Kingdom's railways. The onboard system, installed on an in-service GWR Class 150 cab, will gather data for at least a year. It is composed of multiple sensor systems that combine to create a digital map of the track, providing continuous positioning output. The current train protection and warning system will function alongside the RTPS to enable the supervision of movements and speeds, and emergency brake activations.

Hy-Tech Engineered Solutions and Power Transmission Group (PTG) has acquired Jackson Gear Co. Jackson Gear specializes in manufacturing large gears, spurs and shafts. The purchase is expected to more than double production capacity and improve lead times, which will help to address cost and supply chain problems, Hy-Tech officials said in a press release. Jackson Gear joins three other brands under the PTG name and four brands under Hy-Tech.

AllTranstek has hired Robert Aliota as strategic development consultant. Aliota will help the company generate new products and service,s as well as explore employee development initiatives. He has 30 years of business experience, including in the tank-car industry, having most recently served Carolina Seals Inc. as founder and president.
