Trinity Industries Inc. announced it delivered 4,325 new rail cars in the third quarter. Deliveries were 685 units below the company’s Q3 projection due to the closing of the U.S.-Mexico border by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, Trinity officials said in a press release. In addition, increased state vehicle inspections have resulted in truck traffic congestion, negatively impacting the company’s supply chain. Continued rail and truck congestion at the border will negatively impact the company’s deliveries and supply chain until the congestion is resolved, they said.

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. announced it's now running more than 200 locomotives with Railhead Corp.'s video systems onboard. By year's end, G&W will add 62 kits to the roster bringing the total to 268 equipped locomotives across 24 G&W member railroads, according to a joint press release. Each video kit includes Railhead’s forward-facing, dual-vision camera, the newest LDVR4K-12 DVR and an IK-10, IP69-rated exterior wedge camera capturing views from the back of the locomotive. Railhead is also supplying installation services for all the kits.

Lankhorst Rail has been awarded a contract by Network Rail in the United Kingdom to assist in the development of the next generation of railway crosstie. Network Rail is exploring the benefits of composite ties manufactured from recycled plastics material as an alternative to concrete and wood ties. The Lankhorst KLP Hybrid Rail Crossties will allow Network Rail to evaluate the different moulded profiles for their ability to cope with higher temperatures for extended periods, according to a Lankhorst press release.

Alstom and FNM on Oct. 3 jointly presented the hydrogen-powered Coradia Stream train that marks the beginning of a new era in passenger rail in Italy. The event was held as part of EXPO Ferroviaria 2023. The train will enter commercial service in Valcamonica between late 2024 and early 2025, according to an Alstom press release.
