Wabtec Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Trimble’s Beena Vision business, a manufacturer of machine vision-based wayside inspection systems for the railroad industry. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and financial terms were not disclosed. Beena Vision's non-contact measurement technology provides a detailed condition assessment of train components — ranging from wheel surface condition to full train inspection — while operating in service and at high speeds.
ONxpress Transportation Partners, a consortium that includes Alstom, has signed a contract for the On-Corridor Works project of the GO Expansion program led by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario. Alstom will supply new electric locomotives, train control systems, a new traction power system and network electrification via an overhead catenary system. Alstom will also upgrade the existing GO Transit bilevel rolling stock, signaling and telecommunications systems and other digital equipment, as well as maintain the new locomotives and signaling system for 25 years.
Railinc's TransmetriQ unit has announced a major advance in shipment tracking and estimated-time-of-arrival service with its rail management system (RMS), which enables shippers to better manage their rail operations. The product combines customized, accurate and near-real-time data with functionality such as electronic billing. The TransmetriQ team worked with multiple shippers from various verticals to establish the essential elements for RMS, as well as to plan future upgrades, according to a company press release.
Industry-Railway Suppliers Inc. has announced a partnership with Milwaukee® to sell Milwaukee Tool's battery-powered MX Fuel Equipment, hand tools, safety products, metal-working products, power tool accessories and cordless fastening products to the U.S. railroad industry.
Jeffrey Schultz, a senior transit and rail planner with David Evans and Associates Inc., recently accepted the role of chair for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Railroad Operating Technologies. The TRB is part of the National Academy of Sciences. Schultz had served as vice chair.
