Wabtec Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dellner Couplers, a Sweden-based company focused on safety-critical train connection systems and services for passenger-rail rolling stock. Wabtec is acquiring Dellner Couplers for $960 million in cash, financed through cash on hand and short-term debt. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Dellner offers train connection systems, with production, assembly and aftermarket services facilities in 13 countries serving over 200 customers. The acquisition strengthens Wabtec's Transit product and services portfolio serving a stable and growing underlying passenger-rail market that is driven by sustainable megatrends, Wabtec officials said in a press release.

The Railway Supply Institute's board (RSI) has selected Jim Riley as its new president, effective March 31. Previously, Riley served as interim president and CEO at the National Waste and Recycling Association, and as senior director of government affairs at the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association. Riley assumes the role of RSI president upon the retirement of Patty Long, who has served in that role for the past three years. “I'm excited to work with the board and the dedicated RSI staff team to advance RSI's mission, ensuring we stay at the forefront of industry developments," said Riley in a press release. RSI is managed by Smithbucklin, a professional services company serving nonprofits and industry associations.

Curry Rail Services has opened a rail-car repair and coatings facility in Shoshoni, Wyoming. The action comes as part of an agreement with Bighorn Divide & Wyoming Railroad, further strengthening Curry Rail Services’ position in rail-car maintenance and coatings solutions. The new site marks the third facility for Curry Rail; the company also operates locations in Pennsylvania and Texas. The Shoshoni facility will be AAR M-1002 and M-1003 certified and will provide a full range of rail-car repair, maintenance and coating services while also launching mobile repair Unit support for the region, according to a company press release.
