voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak LLC has acquired the assets of Unitrac Railroad Materials’ business from Wabtec. The asset acquisition has accelerated the company’s capacity growth alongside organic investments in preparation for increasing industry demand, according to a voestalpine news release. Financial terms were not disclosed in the release.

GATX Corp. has acquired 156 locomotives from Progress Rail for an undisclosed amount. The acquired fleet mix is consistent with GATX’s locomotive fleet strategy, according to a GATX news release. As of June 30, GATX Rail North America’s wholly owned fleet was composed of 111,100 rail cars, including 8,990 boxcars, and approximately 500 locomotives. Upon closing, this acquisition brings GATX’s locomotive fleet count to more than 650 units.

IntelliTrans is expanding the office footprint for its operations team in Conway, Arkansas. The new office space is part of a plan for investment that supports IntelliTrans' continued growth in the transportation industry, according to an Intellitrans news release.

League of Railway Women (LRW) has announced the winners of its annual scholarships, according to an LRW news release. Rosa Richmond, claims director at Amtrak, was awarded the $5,000 Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship. Sabrina Davis, director of marketing and partnerships at Metrolink, was awarded the $3,000 Future of Railroading Scholarship. Anna Skidmore was awarded the $5,000 Sue Black Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by The Greenbrier Cos. Skidmore is enrolled at Tulane Law School.
