Rail supplier updates from Argenia, Alstom, Bombardier, Sam Schwartz and Gannett Fleming (Aug. 26)

Ferrocarril Del Pacifico launched its first automatic grade crossing at Avenida 4 Norte and Calle 52 in Cali, Colombia. It marks the first of 22 crossings to be deployed along the corridor from Buenaventura to Cali. Railroad Signal International is under contract to carry out the project and will use a detection system supplied by Argenia Railway Technologies.

Alstom and joint venture partner Taylor Woodrow completed work on the Nottingham Express Transit extension in Nottingham, England. The project called for the addition of  about 10 miles of new track and 28 new stops, Alstom officials said in a press release. The joint venture built all associated infrastructure for the project, including overhead wires, track and signaling. Additionally, Alstom supplied 22 Citadis trams to the city.

Bombardier Transportation yesterday released its fifth biennial corporate responsibility report, which covers 2013 and 2014. The document demonstrates "how the company is providing integrated and sustainable mobility solutions" in communities around the world, Bombardier officials said in a press release. The report also highlights the company's efforts at establishing long-term partners with its stakeholders.

Julie Chang has been named general manager of Sam Schwartz Engineering's New York office. Previously a principal economist at Ecology and Environment Inc., Chang has more than 20 years of experience in environmental and management consulting. In her new role with Sam Schwartz Engineering, Chang will provide executive direction and oversight across business lines in New York, with an emphasis on office growth and expansion.

David Rose joined Gannett Fleming as director of management consulting. Rose will lead the firm's management consulting practice, assisting clients to improve performance and productivity of their assets, Gannett Fleming officials said in a press release. Rose has more than 25 years of experience in infrastructure management consultation, and has led engagements for the Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Highway Administration and National Cooperative Highway Research programs.
