Rail supplier updates from FreightCar America, Bombardier, RailComm, Quintiq, T.Y. Lin, Loram and Unitrac (Feb. 21)

FreightCar America Inc. has subleased 25 percent of Navistar Inc.'s manufacturing facility in Cherokee, Ala., according to a press release. The plant was designed to build a variety of rail cars. FreightCar America is preparing the facility for operation, with the first deliveries of new rail cars produced at the plant expected in the second half. In addition, FreightCar America entered into several related agreements with Navistar for the supply of parts and production support services, and the purchase of production equipment at the facility. Freightcar America expects to invest up to $23 million to equip and prepare the facility.

Bombardier Transportation will deliver in 26 months its INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 solution to the Legnica-Wroclaw-Opole section of Poland's E30 line under an $11 million contract. The project is part of the pan-European transport corridors modernization program. The contract is Bombardier's third ERTMS Level 2 project in Poland.

Compania de Ferrocarriles Chiapas Mayab (FFCM) in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, has selected RailComm for its computerized track warrant control system. RailComm's Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) dark territory train control system can be accessed through a web-enabled, software-as-a-service delivery model.

CN has acquired Quintiq's Mobility Server to improve the performance of its container and pick-up and delivery operations via smart phones. The Mobility Server is designed as a scalable, secure, fast and intuitive optimization platform that can be used to connect mobile apps, according to a Quintiq press release. Quintiq configured an app specifically for CN.

Vincent Montgomery has joined T. Y. Lin International as associate vice president/national director of freight rail. He will be responsible for leading the transit and rail line of business, assisting in strategic and tactical planning, overseeing client relations development and building a practice to serve the freight railroad market. He has almost 30 years of experience in development and delivery of infrastructure projects in the United States and Canada.

Loram Maintenance of Way Inc. named Bradley Willems director of marketing and business development. He will be responsible for marketing, advertising, product development, business development and friction management. Loram also named Carl Robinson director of safety and environment. He will be responsible for continuing a companywide effort to implement superior safety programs, and to meet select OSHA and insurance industry standards.

Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. has named Kelly Kelly to the new position of marketing coordinator. Based in the Chicago office, Kelly will be involved with all company marketing efforts.
