Harsco Corp. announced its Harsco Rail track maintenance group has obtained four equipment orders in China. The orders further expand Harsco Rail's growing presence serving China's multi-city metro transit network, with the production of 20-stone rail grinders from four separate metro rail stations, Harsco officials said in a press release. The grinders will be used to contour and smooth rail surfaces to increase train speeds, enhance fuel efficiency and support safety, they said.

AECOM Technical Services Inc. won a $43.9 million contract from the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation to provide design services for a portion of the Honolulu Rail Transit project. AECOM is responsible for the final design of the City Center Section, the 3.9-mile fourth and final segment of the elevated rail project. The contract includes all of the structural and civil design aspects of the aerial guideway, except for the stations and systems components.

A Bombardier Transportation-led consortium that includes Thales and Nokia Siemens Networks has won a $146.5 million contract to modernize signaling of the E65 rail line linking Warsaw and Gdynia, Poland, according to a Thales press release. Thales and Bombardier Transportation are responsible for the design and development of the ETCS Level 2 system. They also will deliver conventional signal signaling equipment to the ETCS standard. Nokia Siemens Networks is providing the GSM-R systems.

Tranco Industrial Services received the 2012 Contractor Safety Award, Category 3 at the Gold Level, from the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association Inc. The award recognizes distinguished performance by the firm's employees and management in the creation of a safe work environment in the railroad construction industry, according to a company press release.
