Rail supplier updates from Savage, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Gannett Fleming, Vossloh, Faiveley and J.L. Patterson (April 30)

Savage announced it is expanding service at its terminals in Price and Salt Lake City, Utah., to include crude-by-rail transloading services and associated car storage. The terminals will provide Uinta Basin crude, bound for key refinery markets, access to rail transportation, according to a press release. The Price terminal is the first area facility to offer crude-by-rail origination services on Union Pacific Railroad. Together with the Savage Bingham & Garfield in Salt Lake City, the Savage terminals will have the capacity to transload 9,000 bpd.

The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) has awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff for management and technical assistance. Under the on-call contract, the firm will provide consulting services to support DDOT transit initiatives, including assistance with identifying strategic opportunities to optimize transit service. The firm also is consulting on the delivery of new transfer centers at Eastland and Northland along 8 Mile Road in Detroit.

Gannett Fleming Engineers and Architects P.C. received a Platinum Award in the American Council of Engineering Cos. of New York's 46th annual Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the MTA Long Island Railroad Babylon train wash facility. The project consisted of the design and construction of a new, unmanned automatic train washer. The firm was contracted to find a solution to the railroad's need to build a train-wash facility between Babylon Station and the Babylon Train Yard that without disturbing service. The new facility is designed to accommodate electric and diesel-hauled trains, and can service 180 train cars daily.

The Vossloh Group's first-quarter 2013 group sales increased 4.5 percent while rail infrastructure division sales, which includes all rail infrastructure products and services, soared 21.6 percent compared with the same quarter a year ago. Translated to U.S. dollars, year-over-year group sales were $350 million and rail infrastructure division sales were $231 million. Sales in Vossloh's transportation division, which includes rail vehicles and their components, fell by 18 percent during the quarter.

Faiveley Transport North America has appointed C. Jack Martinson vice president OEM sales-transit, and Kevin Masterson as services sales director, according to a company press release. Prior to joining Faiveley, Martinson was director of business development and sales for Bombardier Transportation North America, where he led the company's initiative to develop  the intercity passenger-rail market. In his new role, Masterson will lead Faiveley's sales initiatives for the after-market with transit agencies and other North American customers. Previously, Masterson was national sales manager for a division of Illinois Tool Works. He has 20 years of rail experience in leadership roles while with JMA Railroad Supply.

J.L. Patterson & Associates announced James Faber joined the firm as director of technical services and business development. A civil engineer with 29 years of experience, Faber has expertise in highway, bridge, railroad design, construction and project management. During the past 15 years, he managed and delivered a dozen railroad grade separation projects.
