Rail supplier updates from Wabtec, Bombardier, Alstom, Thales, Wartsila and Pricelock (June 29)

• Wabtec Corp. has obtained contracts valued at $25 million to provide components, including onboard positive train control (PTC) equipment, for 50 new transit cars being built by Hyundai-Rotem. The cars, which will be used on new commuter-rail lines under construction by Denver Transit Partners for the Regional Transportation District, are slated for delivery in 2014, according to a press release. Several Wabtec subsidiaries will provide equipment, including Wabtec Passenger Transit (brakes and couplers), Wabtec Railway Electronics (PTC), Bach-Simpson (event recorders) and Vapor Stone (doors).
• Bombardier Transportation will supply 210 double-deck passenger cars for line A of the RER, the greater Paris commuter-rail network. The new order is an option under a contract signed in April 2009 for an order of 60 MI09 trains. The order is valued at $1.3 billion. Also, Bombardier and New United Group signed a contract with CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. for the supply of Bombardier MITRAC propulsion and control equipment in China. Bombardier will provide engineering, manufacturing, testing and commissioning services, as well as supply initial spare parts for the propulsion and control system of the new metro trains to be delivered by CSR Nanjing Puzhen to Dongguan Rail Transit Co. Ltd. The total value of the contract is $28 million.
• Deutsche Bahn AG and Alstom Transport have signed a $202.9 million contract for the supply of 38 additional diesel regional Coradia Lint trains in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The order includes 14 trainsets with 112 seats as part of a frame agreement signed in 2008, and 24 trainsets with 160 seats as an option from a contract signed in 2011. The trains are slated to begin commercial service in the Southwest Diesel network of Germany in 2015.
• For the modernization of the Nice-Breil line, Thales provided Réseau Ferré de France with signaling solutions comprising a centralized command system based on LockTrack 6171 PIPC electronic interlocking technology and the FieldTrac 6315 AzLM axle counter system. It’s the first project in France to use the AzLM axle counter system, according to a Thales press release.
• Wärtsilä TMH Diesel Engine Company L.L.C, a joint venture owned by Wärtsilä and Transmashholding, soon will begin construction of a new factory in Penza, Russia. The new plant is expected to start production in summer 2013. The joint venture is vital for Wärtsilä since it broadens the company's business activities in the rail market and provides a stronger industrial foothold in Russia, according to a press release.
• Pricelock, a provider of online energy auctions, has added rail-car leases to Marketplace, its suite of energy and energy-related product auctions. Pricelock also recently completed its first rail-car lease auction. The platform supports all types of rail cars, including those used to transport crude oil, coal, ethanol, frac sand, agriculture and mining products, according to a press release. The Pricelock platform, designed in close collaboration with rail-car lessees and lessors, supports car leasing companies seeking the best price for their rail cars by auctioning them to the highest bidder, Pricelock officials said.
