• Wabtec Corp. has completed the acquisition of Winco Equipamentos Ferroviarios Ltda. The acquisition will expand Wabtec’s presence in Brazil, according to a press release. Based in Sao Paolo with annual sales of $15 million, Winco is a marketing and sales company that provides engineering and assembly, service, technical support and logistics services. The firm has “an extensive network of customer relationships in the freight-rail and passenger-transit markets throughout Brazil,” Wabtec officials said.

• L.B. Foster Co. obtained a contract to provide 89,175 of its CXT concrete ties for the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit project. CXT Fastclip ties will be installed on the new San Francisco Bay-area passenger-rail system connecting Sonoma County to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal in Marin. L.B. Foster began shipping ties to the general contractor, Stacy and Witbeck Inc./Herzog Contracting Corp. Joint Venture, in June and expects to complete delivery in second-quarter 2013, according to a company press release.

• Bombardier Transportation obtained a $243 million contract from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide operations and maintenance services for another 10 years and maintain a capital asset upgrade program for the AirTrain system at Newark Liberty International Airport. Opened in 1996, the system is the world's first fully automated monorail at an international airport, Bombardier officials said in a press release. A fleet of 12 six-car Bombardier Innovia Monorail 100 trains originally served three airport terminals, three stations at remote parking lots and a rental car center via a dedicated, dual-lane elevated guideway. Since then, the system has been extended to the North East Corridor rail line and the fleet was expanded to 18 six-car trains.

• Alstom won a $247.5 million order from the SBB to supply eight more New Pendolino high-speed trains that will be added to the Swiss federal railway operator’s existing fleet of seven trains. The order is an option from a contract signed in March 2004 between Alstom and Cisalpino, the former joint venture of Trenitalia, the Italian railway operator, and SBB. Delivery of the new trains is slated for 2015, according to an Alstom press release.

• GE recently announced the appointment of six new company officers, including Geoff Knox, who was named chief executive officer for GE Mining and GE Transportation in Australia. In his new role, Knox will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of the company’s strategy for global mining business, and will oversee all of GE Transportation in Australia. Prior to joining GE, Knox was president of BHP Engineering, global managing director of Hatch Infrastructure, and the managing director and chief executive officer of Downer EDI Ltd. In addition, GE named Richard Simpson vice president, global supply chain of GE Transportation. In this role, he will be responsible for the company’s global operations covering manufacturing, sourcing and distribution.

• Pacer International Inc. has named David Boothe vice president of global sales. He will be responsible for sales and market share growth of all international product lines, including NVOCC, air freight, customs brokerage, cargo management, cartage, transload, warehousing and specialized freight forwarding services. Boothe has more than 27 years of international logistics experience in sales, operations and executive management positions for companies such as Fritz, Amware Logistics, DCT/TeamOne Logistics and, most recently, MIQ Logistics.
