Michael Baker Jr. Inc. has obtained a $2.2 million contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to design the replacement of the 12-span Derry Borough Bridge in Westmoreland County. Baker will provide preliminary and final design for the project, which includes replacement of the structure over a Norfolk Southern Railway line.
Protran Technology's real-time rail buckle, kink and break detection system has been installed on the Maryland Transit Administration's (MTA) system. Features include real-time continuous monitoring for broken or buckled rail; emergency notification to the railroad in advance of an incident; web-accessible GIS user interface; and assistance in a rail de-stressing operation. The MTA "has been researching technology that would continuously track changes in rail temperature, stress and rail neutral temperature for some time," said Jason Lurz, MTA's director of rail operations, in a press release.
Right-of-way land management and communications infrastructure development company Parallel Infrastructure L.L.C. has signed 21 new short-line and regional railroad agreements over the past 12 months, bringing the total amount of right-of-way property managed by the firm to 1,700 miles in 17 states. The company will continue to expand its national "footprint" in 2013, as well as widen its focus to include other types of properties and infrastructure, company officials said in a press release.
Karen Walker has joined Siebert Brandford Shank & Co. L.L.C. as managing director and head of the firm's Chicago office. Most recently, Walker was senior adviser for public-private partnerships at the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). From 2009 to early 2013, she was CTA's chief financial officer and treasurer.
Former Charlotte Area Transit System Chief Executive Officer Ron Tober has been named a senior adviser at Parsons Brinckerhoff, where he will assist clients with transit policy and strategy. Tober has 43 years of experience in public transportation. Parsons Brinckerhoff also named Sean Libberton a principal consultant in the strategy consulting group, where he will advise state and local governments on federal MAP-21 guidelines relating to program structure, investments and performance measures for New Starts, Small Starts, asset management and safety. Most recently, Libberton directed the Federal Transit Administration's Office of Capital Project Initiatives.
VolkerRail has chosen Quintiq for project and multi-resource planning services. Quintiq will develop and deliver to VolkerRail a single, supply chain planning and optimization platform configured to meet the company's workforce planning constraints, according to a press release. Quintiq's solution will enable VolkerRail to plan and schedule employees and machines for construction and maintenance.
Auto Truck Group has hired Chad Calvello as strategic account sales manager. He has 15 years of experience in the fleet industry, most recently serving as truck operations specialist at Wheels Inc. He also is a former fleet manager for Siemens, where he worked for eight years.
