St. Louis MetroLink recently awarded a contract to ARINC Inc. to design and build communications and train control systems for its Cross County Extension project.

Scheduled for completion in 2006, the project includes extending track eight miles west and south of St. Louis through seven communities, and adding nine stations and 22 passenger cars to the 38-mile system.

ARINC will design and manufacture station communications and rail tunnel radio subsystems. The supplier also will upgrade MetroLink’s fiber communications infrastructure, and furnish devices and interfaces for emergency telephones, public-address equipment, passenger signs and closed-circuit televisions.

The contract includes ARINC’s Advanced Information Management platform, which is designed to enable the agency to enhance train-control functions and expand control center operations as the system grows, according to a prepared statement.
