Tensar hosts U.S. Rep. Scott for plant tour

U.S. Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) earlier this week joined representatives of Tensar International Corp., Genesee and Wyoming Inc., and other transportation stakeholders for a tour, product demonstration and transportation policy discussion at Tensar's plant in Morrow, Georgia.

Tensar Chief Executive Officer Mike Lawrence and Executive Vice President Global Operations Mark Koepsel led the tour of the company's production and research and development facility, which is located close to the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Tensar has operated the plant, one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the geogrid industry, for more 30 years, according to a press release issued by the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA). REMSA coordinated the event.

Tensar announced last year that it would bring an additional 35 percent of production capacity on line at the Morrow facility in 2018.

"We are focused on providing the transportation industry with a reliable product that reduces costs and increases safety on both railways and roadways. We strongly support sound federal policies that encourage growth and innovation in the transportation sector," said Lawrence.

Other Tensar officials attending the tour were Marianna Bryce, Bryan Gee, Scott Edgecombe, Wendy McBay, Mike Misitigh, Branden Reall, Rodrigo Valencia and Andy Wilson.

Also in attendance were Joe Arbona of Genesee & Wyoming, John Bayalis of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, David Becker of Norfolk Southern Railway, Matt Bell of the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association, Craig Camuso of CSX, Christy Sammon of GoRail and Sean Winkler of REMSA.
