Union Pacific Railroad recently contracted Duos Technologies Inc. to design, build and install real-time surveillance and monitoring systems along rail lines.

The railroad plans to use the systems to simultaneously monitor line segments and assets remotely and from central command and control stations.

“UP is intent upon mitigating the negative impact threats and security breaches have on the success of its Unified Plan effort to match demand and capacity,” said UP Chief of Police Dennis Jenson in a prepared statement. “We anticipate [the] systems will become one of the cornerstones of our overall railroad security infrastructure.”
