• Bombardier Transportation plans to demonstrate its interactive “Smart Transport Solutions” application at the Ecocity World Summit 2011 in Montreal this week. The application will showcase Bombardier’s latest vehicles, systems and solutions against a backdrop of the “virtual Bombardier city,” which incorporates characteristics of cities worldwide, according to a Bombardier press release.
• Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc. subsidiary Henry Bros. Electronics Inc. recently deployed a $3 million emergency communications system upgrade for a national rail services provider. The specialized first responder system upgrade is designed to improve and enhance the communication coverage and service for a company’s employees and first responders, according to Kratos Defense & Security Solutions.
• VR Mergers & Acquisitions of St. Louis has changed its name to RR Mergers & Acquisitions to “better reflect the company’s focus on the railroad industry,” according to a company press release. The firm also launched a new website, www.rrmergers.com, and plans to expand its Internet presence through an existing website, www.railsectorcompaniesforsale.com.
• Rail logistics services provider RSI Logistics recently was named one of Inbound Logistics magazine’s top 100 companies in the third-party logistics (3PL) industry. The firm was the only independent company focused exclusively on the bulk freight-rail market to make the list, according to RSI.
• Frederick Intermodal, which is part of IMC Cos., has named John Perouty vice president of business development. He will serve on the firm’s senior management team, oversee day-to-day operations and be responsible for developing new business. Prior to joining the firm, Perouty held multiple senior-level management positions at various U.S. transportation companies.
