• Bombardier Transportation and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Local 1075 have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, union officials announced yesterday. Members will vote on the new deal at a ratification meeting Saturday. Workers at Bombardier’s Thunder Bay, Ontario, rail-car manufacturing plant have been on strike since Aug. 9 after contract talks broke down over proposed changes to the pension plan. The current contract expired May 31.
• Healey Railroad Corp.’s Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. subsidiary has obtained a $4.8 million contract for a Kansas Department of Transportation (KSDOT) project. The company will furnish 18 track miles of rail and other track components for the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad. The bid for the trackwork — which is being built by RailWorks Corp. — went through the KSDOT as part of a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant.
• Michael Baker Engineering Inc. has named Dale Spaulding president. He will be responsible for design, inspection and construction management services for New York state. Spaulding has more than 25 years of experience in the Northeast’s transportation industry. Prior to joining the firm, he was senior vice president at Louis Berger.
• Kustom Seating Unlimited Inc. (KSU) has received the “Supplier of the Year” award for 2011 from Siemens Mobility, Rolling Stock. KSU also received recognition for “outstanding performance in competitiveness in mechanical components as a supplier and partner,” company officials said in a prepared statement. KSU has been a Siemens supplier since 2005.
