• Yesterday, at the Transnet Rail Engineering facility in Koedoespoort, South Africa, Transnet SOC Ltd. and GE South Africa Technologies Ltd. marked the signing of a contract for 43 new Model C30ACi locomotives for Transnet. The order brings the total number of GE Transportation locomotives to be acquired by Transnet since December 2009 to 143. “The acquisition of these locomotives is part of our fleet renewal program, a key element of our … five-year capital investment program,” said Brian Molefe, chief executive officer of Transnet Group, in a prepared statement. “Improving the average age of our assets is crucial in our efforts to improve our reliability, efficiency and our ultimate goal of running a scheduled railway.”

• AECOM Technical Services Inc. has obtained a $38.8 million contract from the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART) to design the airport section of the Honolulu Rail Transit project, which involves an elevated rail guideway. AECOM will design the 5.2-mile section of the guideway from Aloha Stadium to the Middle Street Transit Center in Kalihi. The company is required to finish the design work by spring 2013, according to a HART press release.

• OPW Fluid Transfer Group has named Richard Wei vice president of Asia/Pacific. Wei, who assumed his new duties on Jan 1, is responsible for the group’s operations in Suzhou, China, and Chennai, India, as well as sales and marketing functions for the Asia/Pacific region, according to a company press release. He is assigned to Dover Corp.’s Shanghai regional headquarters.

• Stantec has named Gene Davis senior railway engineer to lead the firm's freight- and commuter-rail services in the Southeastern U.S. Davis has more than 27 years of experience in the rail industry, including operations, economics and engineering for railroads, state departments of transportation and major municipalities, according to a company press release. He has worked on intercity passenger rail, commuter-rail and freight-rail projects across the United States and spent 18 years with Norfolk Southern Railway, where he served in various positions.
