Updates from Invensys, Miner, Wabtec, Sweco, Kahn and Parsons Brinckerhoff

• Today, Invensys Rail announced James Drummond, president and chief executive officer since 2006, will step down June 30 to become group CEO of the INAER companies. Kevin Riddett, currently chief operating officer of Invensys Rail, will succeed Drummond as president and CEO, company officials said in a prepared statement.

• Miner Enterprises Inc. has obtained a contract to supply AutoLOK™ II discharge gates to CIT Rail. CIT has converted 353 twin-pocket cement cars for frac sand service. Miner’s new gates are being installed on the cars. “We were able to add value to these programs by engineering innovative and unique products specific to the customer’s requirements,” said Miner Vice President of Sales Ric Biehl in a prepared statement.

• Wabtec Corp. has obtained a $12 million contract to provide braking equipment to Bombardier Transportation Canada Inc., which is building 100 new commuter-rail cars for New Jersey Transit. The contract also will include draft gears and bench test equipment. Wabtec expects to begin deliveries later this year, the company said.

• Sweco has obtained a $1.4 million contract from Stockholm Public Transport SL to assist in the expansion of the Roslagen Line between Kragstalund and Vallentura Centre via Ballsta Station in Sweden. Sweco’s services will include preparation of tender and construction documents for a double-track expansion of the line. When completed, it will have three level differences with two railway bridges, according to Sweco.

• Albert Kahn Associates Inc.’s design of National Alabama Corp.’s rail-car manufacturing facility has received the IDEAS2 Award from the America Institute of Steel Construction. Completed in 2009, the 2 million-square-foot plant is the largest rail-car manufacturing facility in North America, according to Kahn.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff has named Ibrahim Muftic supervising engineer in the firm’s San Francisco office, where he will specialize in train control systems on California’s high-speed rail project. Muftic has more than 12 years of experience designing systems for rail signaling, train control and communications. Prior to joining the firm, he worked on various rail projects in Europe and the Middle East, as well as at the Croatian Ministry of Transportation and the International Union of Railways.
