• Railserve Inc. has acquired inventory and production equipment from Spring Ridge Rail Services of Hughes Springs, Texas, to form a new division that will repair, rebuild and install air brake valves and systems for freight locomotives. Spring Ridge Rail co-owner Johnny Davis will serve as director of the new division, Railserve Air Brake Services. Four additional Spring Ridge employees will join the new division, Railserve officials said in a prepared statement. “The acquisition fills a technical need for Railserve’s fleet of 170 locomotives,” said Railserve Senior Vice President Bobby Ross.

• Nomad Digital has acquired the technology portfolio of Berlin-based research and product development firm Lysatiq GmbH. The acquisition enables Nomad to open a new base for software sales in Berlin, Germany. “This acquisition, and the new German presence it brings … represents our increasing commitment to address the needs of the German rail market,” said Nomad CEO Nigel Wallbridge in a prepared statement.

• Bombardier Transportation’s revenue grew 26 percent to $2.7 billion in the second quarter of its fiscal year, which ended July 31, compared with $2.1 billion in the year-ago period. • After testing Midwest Industrial Supply Inc.’s Soil-Sement Engineered Formula® for dust-control capabilities, BNSF Railway Co. selected the firm as an approved vendor, Midwest officials said in a press release. The Class I has introduced new coal-dust mitigation requirements for coal shippers to prevent damage and ballast contamination caused by coal dust. Midwest has developed a year-round, containerized Coal CarTopping System®, which can be installed permanently. The application bar adjusts to match the profile of coal in a rail car and product is protected against freezing with a heated container, Midwest officials said.

• The Timken Co. has named Brian Ruel vice president of rail, effective Oct. 1. He will succeed Roger Lindsay, who plans to retire. Ruel will lead Timken’s rail segment, which provides bearings, seals, gearboxes and repair services for freight, locomotive, passenger tram and high-speed rail customers. Most recently, Ruel served as Timken’s vice president of light vehicle systems. He joined the company in 1984.
