Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently awarded a contract to ARINC Inc. to replace the authority’s 20-year-old West Falls Church Rail Yard control system.

ARINC plans to install a more modern, computer-aided dispatching system. The interlocking control system will feature a centralized yard control room, three satellite yard control rooms, fiber-optic communications inks, advanced data collection devices and necessary software. The new system also will include an automated graphical electronic display of the yard layout, indicating track occupancy and switch positions.

ARINC plans to integrate into the system RailComm Inc.’s Yard:DOCTM, which features computer-aided dispatching, and modular expansion and communications capabilities. Yard:DOCTM is designed to complement ARINC’s Advanced Information Management (AIM®) platform.
